A bipartisan Senate Finance Committee Chronic Care Working Group is inviting comments on an options paper outlining potential ways to improve care for Medicare beneficiaries with complex chronic conditions. Options under consideration include specific proposals designed to: improve care in the home setting; expand team-based care; promote innovation in benefit design and technology; appropriately pay and evaluate Medicare plans and providers based on care provided to chronically-ill Medicare beneficiaries; and empower individuals and caregivers in care delivery. The Finance Committee leadership has expressed its position that any future legislation in this area must realize savings or it must be budget neutral. Comments on the options will be accepted through January 26.
