On February 6, 2014, the Department of Health & Human Services (HHS) published a final rule making changes to the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments of 1988 (CLIA) and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) regulations to provide individuals with a greater ability to directly access their laboratory test reports.
