CMS is requesting public comments on possible additional data collection on hospice claims, including visit length data on hospice team members and information on non-labor costs (e.g., drugs, DME, and medical supplies). CMS also is considering collecting the National Provider Identifier (NPI) of any nursing facility, hospital, or hospice inpatient facility where the patient is receiving services, regardless of the level of care provided. Feedback on the information collection proposals is requested by January 31, 2013. CMS also announced that it intends to update the hospice cost report forms, noting that such forms have not been comprehensively updated for years even though the industry has undergone changes which affect cost reporting.
