The full Energy and Commerce Committee has approved H.R. 1173, the “Fiscal Responsibility and Retirement Security Act of 2011,” which would repeal the ACA’s Community Living Assistance Services and Supports (CLASS) program. As previously reported, while the CLASS program was intended as a voluntary, self-financed program to provide insurance for long-term care services and supports, the Administration announced it is suspending implementation of the program because an actuarially-sound benefit could not be identified. The legislation now awaits consideration by the full House.
