The HHS Office of Inspector General (OIG) has issued a report entitled “Use of Surety Bonds to Recover Overpayments Made to Suppliers of Durable Medical Equipment, Prosthetics, Orthotics, and Supplies: Early Findings.” The OIG observes that more than two years after publishing a final rule requiring certain DMEPOS suppliers to obtain a surety bond, CMS has not recovered any overpayments through surety bonds nor has the agency finalized procedures for recovering overpayments to DMEPOS suppliers through surety bonds.
