The OIG has issued another report on Medicare claims for home blood glucose test strips and lancets that it characterizes as high-utilization (that is, claims exceed standard utilization guidelines), this time focusing on claims processed in DME Medicare Administrative Contractor (MAC) Jurisdiction B. According to the report, the DME MAC inappropriately allowed for payment approximately $56.2 million in claims in 2007 for such high utilization claims.  The OIG recommends that the contractor implement system edits and take other steps, including prepayment reviews, to identify and prevent high utilization claims for diabetes supplies.
