At a recent regional health fraud prevention summit in Boston, HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius and Attorney General Eric Holder announced that CMS will issue a solicitation for “state-of-the-art fraud fighting analytic tools” designed to predict and prevent improper Medicare, Medicaid and Children’s Health Insurance Program payments. Such technology may identify “potential fraudulent actors” who may seek to defraud federal programs, highlight “questionable affiliations,” and track billing patterns “to identify real-time aberrant trends that are indicative of fraud.”
