On March 31, 2010, HHS published a notice announcing the establishment of the Presidential Commission for the Study of Bioethical Issues, as directed by Executive Order 13521. The Commission is charged with advising the President on bioethical issues that may emerge as a result of advances in biomedicine and related areas of science and technology. In particular, the Commission will identify and promote “policies and practices that ensure scientific research, healthcare delivery, and technological innovation are conducted in an ethically responsible manner.” The Commission will not review and approve specific projects.
